In this technical support guide, we’ll be addressing issues with the Philips SpeechMike record button.

It’s rare that you’ll experience this, but accidents happen!

Is your Philips SpeechMike record button not working? Then keep reading for a quick fix!

Step 1

Firstly, check if the Philips Device Control Centre (PDCC) is installed on your computer.

If the answer is no, you can do so here:

If you already have the PDCC installed, we recommend a restart of the software.

Not sure how to do this?

Go to the right-hand bottom corner of your computer where the date and time are located.

Click the little arrow and the hidden icons will expand. See the image below.

Next, right-click on the PDCC icon and select ‘Close’.

Once closed, exit the hidden icons and open PDCC from the desktop.

Try your Philips microphone’s record button again. Still not working?

Head to the next step!

Step 2

So, you’ve made it to step 2, which means step 1 didn’t work.

Up next, restart your computer.

Yep, simple we know, but most of the time, it works!

Restarting your computer can fix various problems as it clears your computer’s RAM (Random Access Memory) – So give this a try.

Step 3

No luck? Next, try unplugging the microphone itself.

The SpeechMike is a USB device so try removing it from the USB port and plugging it in again.

It may also be worth trying a different USB port if you have one available.

Step 4

Our fourth and final step is to check the programming of the SpeechMike within the PDCC.

Philips apply the same setting to all SpeechMike’s when they’re created as default.

Therefore, it is unlikely that this will not be correct, but it can happen nevertheless.

Here are the steps to check that the programming of your SpeechMike is correct:

  • Open the PDCC.
  • Click on the Application Control Tab.
  • Scroll down to the microphone/recording button.
  • Click on the settings button.
  • Click ‘Choose Add’.
  • Choose the ‘Dragon NaturallySpeaking command radio button’.
  • Make sure that ‘Toggle Microphone’ is selected by default, if it isn’t, select it.

Try your SpeechMike record button again.
